The Houston Astros are the 2022 World Series Champions. After their game six victory in Houston on November 5th, the Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña was crowned World Series MVP.

The Astros finished their run by beating the Phillies 4-1. Astros pitcher, Framber Valdez pitched a solid six innings, giving up one run and striking out nine. Phillies starting pitcher Zach Wheeler gave up two runs in five and a third innings with five strikeouts.

Phillies shortstop Kyle Schrawber started off the scoring with a solo home run in the sixth inning. Astros DH Yordan Alvarez responded in the bottom half with a three-run home run. Catcher Christan Vázquez extended the Astros lead to 4-1 with an RBI single, and the Astros never looked back, holding the Phillies scoreless for the final three innings.

In game five, Astros hurler and two-time Cy Young award winner Justin Verlander got his first career World Series win as the Astros took the lead at threes games to two. Verlander pitched a solid five innings while only giving up one run and striking out six. Jeremy Peña helped lead the Astros to victory with three hits and two RBI’s. In the first inning, Peña brought in the first run of the game with an RBI single. Kyle Schwarber responded for the Phillies with a solo home run. In the fourth inning, Jeremy Peña crushed his own solo home run. In the eighth inning, Yordan Alvarez hit an RBI groundout to extend the Astros lead to 3-1. Jean Segura shortened the lead to 3-2 with an RBI single late in the game.

The Astros cruised in game four. Cristan Javier, Bryan Abreu, Rafael Montero, and Ryan Pressly combined to no-hit the Phillies. This was the second no-hitter in a World Series game, and it was the first since the 1956 Yankees. Cristan Javier pitched a solid six innings with nine strikeouts. In the fifth inning, the Astros scored all five of their runs. Alex Bregman hit a two RBI double, Yuli Gurriel hit an RBI single, Kyle Tucker hit a sac-fly, and Yordan Alvarez started the rally with an RBI hit by pitch.

The Phillies shut out the Astros 7-0 in game three. Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, Alec Bohm, Brandon Marsh, and Rhys Hoskins all homered for the Phillies. The Phillies tied a World Series record with five home runs in a single game. The Phillies pitcher, Ranger Suarez shut down the Astros for five innings with four strikeouts.

In the second game, the Astros came out strong, winning the game 5-2. The Astros had a big first inning with three straight doubles by Jose Altuve, Jeremy Peña, and Yordan Alvarez. They all came around to score. In the fifth inning, Alex Bregman crushed a 2-run homer to give the Astros a 5-0 lead. The Phillies scored their first run of the game with a sac-fly. Later, the Phillies were able to score their second run on a fielding error by pitcher, Ryan Pressly.

The Phillies won the first game of the 2022 MLB World Series 6-5 in 10 innings. The first run of the World Series was scored by the Astros on Kyle Tucker’s solo home run to right. Martin Maldonado extended the Astros lead to 2-0 with his RBI single. In the third inning, Kyle Tucker crushed a three-run homer to give the Astros a 5-0 lead. This was Tucker’s 2nd homer of the night. Nick Castellanos got the Phillies on the board with an RBI single. Then, Alec Bohm hit a two RBI double, which made the score 5-3. J.T. Realmuto tied the game up with his two RBI double. In the 10th inning, J.T. Realmuto demolished a go-ahead solo home run to give the Phillies the win.

The road to the championship

In the American League, The Astros made it to the series by sweeping the Yankees. In the first game of the series Justin Verlander from the Astros struck out 11 batters in six innings, while only giving up one run. Yuli Gurriel, Chas McCormick, and Jeremy Peña all hit solo home runs, and Houston took a 1-0 series lead with the 4-2 win.

In game two, the Astros won 3-2. Framber Valdez from the Astros struck out nine batters in seven innings, while only giving up two runs. Alex Bregman crushed a three-run home run for the Astros.

In the third game, the Astros won 5-0. Cristian Javier shut out the Yankees in five and third innings with five strikeouts. Chas McCormick crushed a two-run home run for the Astros.

In the final game, the Astros clinched with a 6-5 victory. Jeremy  Peña crushed a three-run homer for the Astros, while Harrison Bader made it close with a solo homer for the Yankees, but it wasn’t enough and the Astros were headed to the Series.

In the National League, the Padres and Phillies faced each other in the NLCS. The Phillies won the series 4-1.

The Phillies won the first game 2-0. The Phillies pitcher, Zack Wheeler shut out the Padres in seven innings with eight strikeouts. Padres pitcher, Yu Darvish gave up two runs in seven innings with seven strikeouts. Both Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber belted home runs.

In the game two, the Padres evened the series with a 8-5 victory. Brandon Drury, Josh Bell, and Manny Machado homered for the Padres. Rhys Hoskins homered for the Phillies.

In the third outing, the Phillies took the series lead with a 4-2 win. Phillies pitcher, Ranger Suarez gave up two runs in five innings with three strikeouts, but Kyle Schwarber helped him out by obliterating a home run for the Phillies victory.

The Phillies never looked back, winning game four 10-6 and then clinching their World Series berth in Ggame five with a 4-3 win. Rhys Hoskins brought his big bat for those games, homering once in game four and twice in game five.
