Netflix Shows You Need To Watch

Linnea Maconaghy, Staff Writer

Are you looking for new shows to watch on Netflix? If so, here is a little about each of my favorites and why you should watch them.

Outer Banks

This show takes place in the Outer Banks of North Carolina where a group of teenagers are trying to find a lost treasure. The show takes many unexpected twists that will always surprise you, and a third season was released on February 23. This is one of my favorite shows because it has a lot of comedy, mysteries, and great friendships. In the first season, you are introduced to John B, JJ, Kiara, and Pope. They are the main characters in the show and are all best friends. You learn that 9 months ago, John B’s father went missing at sea while trying to find the lost treasure of the ship: The Royal Merchant. After John B finds a few clues about where this treasure is, he decides to follow in his dad’s footsteps and try to find the treasure. Along the way, a new friends come along, relationships break and form, and lots of memories are made. This show is very entertaining, and it will keep you wanting more.

Stranger Things

This show is set in the 1980’s, and it focuses on the residents of a small town named Hawkins, Indiana. They get plagued by the hostile alternate dimension known as the “Upside Down” after a nearby human experimentation facility opens a portal between the normal world and the Upside Down. In the first episode, a middle school boy named Will Byers goes missing mysteriously one night; his family and friends are looking for him everywhere, and they find nothing. But later on, his friends discover that this may be bigger than him just going missing: he might have gone to a completely different dimension. And using the help of a girl named Eleven, they find Will and bring him back from the Upside Down. This show has 4 seasons, if you like comedy, mysteries, and a little bit of horror, then this is definitely a great show for you.

Cobra Kai

This show has 5 seasons and is a spin off of the 1984 movie Karate Kid, where the kids that were main characters in the movie are grown up with kids of their own. They continue their Karate dojo rivalry, and Johnny Lawrence (played by the same actor as the original film, William Zabka) opens up Cobra Kai again, and Daniel Laruso (played by original actor Ralph Macchio) reopens Miyagi-do. In the past seasons, the kids in each dojo are constantly fighting with each other because they think their own dojo is better than the other. I love this show because it has some comedy and great characters, and it is also a great spinoff of one of my favorite movies: Karate Kid.

Anne with an E

This show has 3 seasons and is based off of the book Anne of Green Gables. Throughout the show, you follow a thirteen year old orphan girl named Anne living in the nineteenth century who has had a abusive childhood after living at many orphanages. She is now trying to find her place in the world after she moves to Prince Edward Island with her new family. In the first few episodes, she tries to make some new friends but seems to always do something wrong, and they don’t want to be friends with her. But she ends up making one really good friend named  Diana Barry. After some time on the island, she starts to fit in more and make plenty of friends, but she still gets into a lot of trouble with her wild imagination. This show is exciting to watch and will keep you at the edge of your seat.

Gilmore Girls

This show has 7 seasons, and it focuses on Lorelei Gilmore and her daughter Rory, who she had when she was only 16 years old. Soon after Rory was born, they moved Stars Hollow, Connecticut, a small town where everyone knows each other. You get to go along on their journey as they deal with crazy friends and neighbors, Rory growing up, Lorelai’s sporadic relationships, and a lot of ups and downs. During the first episode, Rory gets accepted into a fancy private school called Chilton Academy: a school that will help her get into her dream school, Harvard. Lorelei is forced to go to her wealthy parents for financial assistance so Rory can attend Chilton. They happily lend her a loan in exchange for them putting an end to the family estrangement by and having a family dinner every Friday night. This is a great show for you if you love drama and comedy, and it is definitely binge-worthy.

I highly recommend any of this shows if you’re ever in the mood to give a new show a chance.
