Edgewood Orators Bring Home Hardware
The Speech & Debate team had their fifth and final regional tournament Saturday, January 21st at Apopka High School. It was the largest tournament of the year, with almost 300 competitors from throughout Central Florida. Edgewood was well-represented with 13 competitors.
Lincoln-Douglas Debating: Thanmay Kumar took 1st place out of 41 debaters with a 4-0 winning record and the highest speaker points of all competitors, while Thejas Kumar and Ayush Jain ranked superior.
Oratorical Interpretation of Literature: Delainey Barnett took 3rd place and Michelle Eaton took first in “Best Novice,” while Shirley Chen and Twisha Mehta ranked “excellent.”
Program Oral Interpretation: Jennifer Gearin took 3rd place
Informational Speaking: Emily Qu took first in “Best Novice”
Original Oratory: Tori Tonhauser, Iain MacLean, Alena LaMothe , and Jamie VanHooven ranked superior in their events and speaker points.
